Start with a packed bag
First pack everything already lying ready in view. Leave out only what you still need immediately, such as the room key. Put your luggage in a clear, visible position without obstructing the exit. This makes the room easier to inspect. If you continue repacking throughout the final circuit, surfaces already checked may become occupied again. A deliberate switch from packing to checking makes this brief finishing routine easier to follow.
Inspect sockets and work surfaces first
Follow the charging cables you used all the way to their sockets. Check small adapters and devices behind the laptop as well. Look beneath loose papers and along the desk edge. Inspect used drawers completely, not just the visible front section. Take confidential documents with you rather than leaving them exposed as supposed waste paper. If a property-owned item resembles yours, establish which is which instead of packing both just in case.
Check bathroom and clothing methodically
Look at the shower, basin area and shelves. Small containers or glasses are easily missed when they blend into a surface. Inspect the wardrobe, hooks and the space behind the bathroom door. A coat may conceal another garment. Look beside and beneath your suitcase too, without moving heavy furniture. If you used a safe or another compartment, explicitly include it in the circuit.
Count the final important belongings
Briefly check the few items whose absence would make the onward journey difficult: essential documents, your phone and the relevant bag. If you have several pieces of luggage, count them. Then close the room according to the property's instructions and complete the agreed key return. The check need not last exactly five minutes. Its strength lies in the fixed sequence and deliberately inspecting every place you actually used.
